What's the last day? I suddenly feel strange that I didn't record the last day of this program.

After a big meal that day, we went to KTV. (By the way, that was the night that I ever took so many hug-pictures.)

After KTV, Flora shared a room with me at her dorm. She is a person who likes to keep environment clean and tidy. I like that.

Though we made a lot of cards for foreign students, in my mind, there's a card that I haven't made. It's like a habit, or a normal thing, that people easily forget to say thank you to friends and family. Flora will still be in campus. But how do I know when is the next time that I can have a chat with her? We are't sure. What we can do is to make every chat we have as our cherishable memory.

Next day was also a day I move back to my home. I didn't see Alicia and Jennifer get in the car to airport because of my wrong information about the time to my dad.

But no matter what, for the previous month, I had a good memory.

7 /18

Today we left Sitou, and went back to Taipei. On our way back, we visit the Earthquack Museum of Taiwan and Agricultural Research Institue.

Thinking that earthquack, though more than ten years have passed, I still feel depressed. How those people went through? Losing their beloved house and family. It seems that in the process of growing up, we'll need to learn how to accept death, forgive other, and believe the value of existance itself.

Our lunch was in a government-like place. That meal must be expensive. We even had some popsicles at the end as our dessert.

After that, we went to visit Agricultural Reaserch Institute. At first, I didn't feel interested in it. I thought it was another government-place. But I think Flora has some different thoughts about it. I should understand it first before I gave any opinion. There are many issues been argured all because of less understanding.

When we got back to Taipei, Flroa and I went to a all-cheap-thing store, and had dinner togather. It was a nice meal I ever had. Through out this trip, we always has big meals, but that's not neccessary. Somethime two dumplings and a cup of soay bean milk are enough, and they are delicious, in deed.

All my roommates left, I listened to 'The climb' when keeping this diary. I like this song pretty much. Maybe I could ask more songs like this from Flora. She is a intellgence gril. I want to learn more from her!

June 15

Today's class was about soil biodiversity, which are related to our project. This time I really paied a lot of attention. And since I had read the book talked about whay we should pay respect to soil, I got more interested in it.

At afternnon, we gave our proposal. I was a little bit nervous when I talked about our objective. But thankfully, I went through it. We also checked about whether we could have the tools we'd use. After that, we went to see the place where we'll do survey.

We, hopfully, really find some usable places. But we don't have a efficient way of how to count the Ivy-like plants. Many be we'd figure out tomorrow.

Because we still had time, we went to sky walk. I like the scenery on the way. It could see Riverhead's center! But it's a pity that I didn't take a photo about it. When we really got to there, it's a unique experience to walk with tall trees' top next to you. Yet, there were too many people, I could't find much of the creature there. Maybe at down, or some other time, with less of toursits, I could see more things!

Dinner was great. I had two plates of vegetable! After dinner, we went to get some ice cream. But I wasn't  hungry at all. I didn't try any of them.

At night, we got back to room. But I still need to find the superman to ask for gloves. So, I went out, and went to their office. However, I didn't find anyone at second floor. The good news was, upon walking down, I saw a man sawing a big bamboo. I squated next to him, and started to chat to him. At the end, he gave me a note of bamboo! That's the best gift I ever have!

June 14

This morning, we had a lot of tea, like WenSan PaoChong Tea, Highmountain Tea. It's so nice  to have so many chance to try different kinds of tea. And this time, the speaker told about the tea's history, the process of making tea, and also the chemistry inside the tea.

After lunch, we had a class about birds in Rive-head. Dr. Yuan is a very energetic and close-to-nature person. I enjoyed her class. She showed us many pictures of birds. Though it was cool, it would be better if we went out. So, Dr. Yuan, Thom, Robin, Dr. Ding, and Dr Chung took us out. Learning from nature, also learning from life, is more important than just stuffing things in your brain.

I like Dr. Ding. He's eager to help students with all of his passion. And the way he talks is pretty energetic, too. He wants us to enjoy time in Rivehead, and at the same time, find the correct way to do scientific research. I wish I can have more of his class in the future.

At night, our team discuss the question on our project, which is very important. Step by stept, we made it! Working with other people, I need to learn when to speek, when to ask, and listen to other people is also important. That's what life in a group is. Since we are human, living in today's society, it's normal. That way life could be more colorful.

June 13

Today we went to visit the Phoenix Tea Farm. Again, I learned how important languages are. If you want to explain something, which you know a lot, having it translated is never a good idea.

From the observation deck, we can even saw Cloud-forest county.

When the staff there started to explain tea farm, I gradually found that Flora is an expert of it. She talked about lots of it to both Thomas and me. At the same time, we tried two kinds of teas. One is Dong-ding Wolone Tea, the other is Oriental Beauty Tea. Ivy made it for us.

At the afternoon, we went to Da-ho factory. It had many puzzles boxes. Some should be opened by turning it to specific direction, some should pressed at certain point.

Then, we arrived at River-head. I love the whether. I wish I could enjoy each day here.

June twelfth

Today we went to Endemic Species Research Center. We saw a lot of speciems, such as Taiwan black bear, leopard cat and many many kinds of birds.

We also saw an interesting video. It's about Honey Buzzard life in Taiwan. It's a fun thing to know more about them. They are so gorgeous!

Later on, we went to visit wild animal rescue center. When animals could't be released, they would be kept in the center, and may show to public to be an educational material.

Than, there's lecture about bat. The speecher even brought a real bat to class, and when he released the bat to let us see, it flew away! What's more surprising, it stayed on my cloth for like two seconds!

After that, we visited the museum. The introducersd was an energtic person! I like her. Biodiversity of Taiwan, this concept appears again and again. I heard about the first person study about Taiwan Black Bear. I want to check her imformation more!

When we left there, we headed to a temple, crushed by the earthquack. But it seemed that everyone was more interested about the tradition market near by. Flora and I got some bananas there.

And tonight, was the most relaxing night I ever have. Flora played guitar, and her voice was so nice!

June eleventh

What a day! The most happies thing I did today was making a stool, with a thankful heart! Becarse I decided to give it to my mom, as a birthday gift! On the chair, I carved four Chinese characters on it, which means "White clouds; so beautiful!" It's because my mother's name include a word " cloud." I believe she'd like it.

At night, we watched a video about forest industry in America. The high point was when our discussion started. It's about interacting, sharing, sometimes even debating. I also learned from the discussion that some concepts taught in forestry department was not exactly right. Like, you should cut down tree in forest to let other younger trees grow stronger, but the fact is that if it's an thousand-old tree, there's no reason for making it into wood. Knowledge can't always be right.

After this discussion, Flora and I chatted with our leader today. His name is Jason, who also majored in forestry. At first, we asked questions about forestry. Later on, we started to talk about our future. We are in an era that nothing can be sure. It means that we have to make our dissions, like which class I shoud go, what am I going to do in the future, but we don't know how. We are so used to the "correct answer."  And if we can't find the "only-and-correct" answer, we became anxious.  Howerer, in life, there's no such thing. That's what I believe. Listening to other people's experiences may give me more inspiration and direction.

He said that he got a gob as a teacher after he graduated. Three years later, he got a chance to work in Water-villiage. And I believe, he's thankful to that.

What am I going to do with my life?

June ninth

This morning we had a bird watching. Trying to remember different sound of each bird was not an easy task!

We also had a trip for visiting the garden. Many flowers that I never noticed before was all over there. And their smells were so refreshing, except the one that smells like a fish.

At afternoon, we met an amazing teacher. He came from Canada, but he has lived in Taiwan for many years. The topic of his lecture today was about composting. Though he has an French accent, sometimes mixed with Chinese, or Taiwanese, I still really want to know what he's talking about. It sounds that his method could save the world. I want to visit there!

Then, we went to make sweet beet juice. We added pineapples, apples, and, of course, sweet beets.  Pineapples give the juice a sweet taste, and sweet beets mainly gave the color.

At night, we went to moth hounting. Iwas kind of being scare to them, though.

The most exciting part was about watching stars. 'Forest" Guide told about many stories about them, and gave us a basic knowledge about stars.

June tenth

Guess what we did today!

Tomatoes harvasting!! So wonderful! It's little tomatoes, not that big ones that grandma used to grow. It's also my first time to see a tomato farm. Lin taught me how to correctly pick the tomatoes. We have to save the green sepals, because it help tomatoes to stay longer. We had tow kinds of tomatoes, yellow one and red one. Each of us can have one box of it!! So attractive!

At the afternoon, we went to Sun-moon Lake. It's a toursit spot though. We had some delicious ice cream their. Flora and I made tow grasshopper on the way. I want to make it better!

At night, we arrived at Water-village. This is also a beautiful place to stay, and the dinner was so delicious! I loved it so much!

We had a puzzle lecture after that. It's a Chinese toy, made out of wood. When we got to know how to make it, we had a competition. Everyone got so nervous. Some will shake their hands and some became very serious, which's not a common emotion during this program.!

June sixth

I got up around six. After brashing my teeth, I went outside to find some beautiful flowers. There are many flowers, which I don't know them. But among them, I found one kind of flowers on the Sun-bright mountain. They have white and blue one here.

Our morning schedule was hiking in All-happy-togather Mountain. It's so wonderful!! Flora and I found many though unknown but beautiful flowers. That's one of  our common habits. This kind of hiking was quiet enjoyable. We were not in a rush, keeping walking. We were like appreciating nature. The big, white, and 3-D clouds were gorgeous, passing fast right in front of us. And those mountains, layer after layer, showed how amazing Taiwan's scenery could be. Though the temperture was not hot, and the pressure was higher, we still climbed to the top.

The bus drive, taking us to the starting point, was so unnormal! It was a little bit scarry, to be honest. Because the road was narrow, and had many turns. Sometimes even heavy fog raise under the mountain and srounded all of us. But the driver was nice. He kept talking about the signs and foods in here.

At the afternnon, we went to Cler-clean Farm. It was not so good. Because we mainly watched the show. The other reason was that the farm itself, somehow, made me recall the trip I had with my dog. He died, couple of months ago. It's kind of hard to only focus on the bright side. Yet, I understand that ignoring them is not only the wrong way but also the way that put us in a down mood.

After dinner, it was  lecture time, which was about introducing "No-wind Farm." That's the meaning of "Palm-front Farm." (You have to say it in Chiness.) It's the first class that I can pay my attention to the end. And the bird-watching movie was great, too. It has a story, so I followed it, and would't put me into sleep.

At night, Angella and I went to get our clean cloth. As soon as we stepped out, I found out that there're hundreds and thousands of stars in the sky!

July 7

Today, we left Taipei, heading to the central part of Taiwan. We spent most of our time on the bus. Yet, we had some fun. Karioka!! I like to sing!

After lunch, we went to winery. And I ate a lot of cookies, mo-chi, roll egg cookies.

Finally we arrived at our hotel. It was cool on the mountain. Hopefully, I had packed some winter cloth.

After dinner, we watched movie’s that introducing Be-Happy-together mountain. The movie was short. It lasted for only ten minutes.

Then, my project group, including Alicia, 安琪, 紀晶, Dominique, started to discuss the topic of our project. It may be something related to the different impacts of bioengineering and traditional engineering. It was a great start!

Friday, July 6, 2012

Today we spent most of the time in car. However, we had a great lecture g
iven by Yao-Chien Alex Chang. He introduced Taiwan's orchids and the way to take care of them. I remembered on my grandpa's funeral, we received many orchids. But now they are in the yard, and I wondered whether they were watered or not. Maybe after bact program, I can check them when I go home.

We also visite the Orchid Green House. Yet, it's not a place to show how Taiwanese plant orchid nowaday. "It's a toursite spot, where many leftover orchids were sent here." accroding to Yao-Chien.

Our next site was Clean-water Cliff. Though it is at the east coastal area of Taiwan, we can still see the sand. And on the sand, there were many beautiful stones. We picked some, and took them back. (If it's belong to NP, then, we are not allowed to do this!)

Finally, we arrived at Hualian. And had some delicious mochis! It was so good!
Yesterday we went ot Taroko NP. I was touched by the scenenry. We can walk in the naroow trail with those huge rocks on our right side and the green water on our left side. (Of course if you walk in the opposite direction, the scene will be in opposite side, too.) I nevere realize that Taiwan has such a gorgeous place.

On our way, we saw some insects and tried to recongnize some plants. The utltimate point of this trail was when we got close to the river bank. Some climbed on those titan rocks; some swimmed in the river. I took a lot of pictures there. Sometimes life is so easy.

On our way back, we saw a dog , whcih looked like to have puppies. After asking the owner, I took a look at the puppies. They were absolutely adorable. Howere, the owner said that their mother was not a watch-dag. Ohoo. That dosen't fit my grandmother's request. So I went back. The other reason I thought is that I wasn't sure I can take care of him or her. I spent so many days at school, and I am not sure what my schedule will be in next semester. I can't give any promise. That goes the quote " Love is a commitment and responsiblity.

Finally, we went back to Taipei. I wanted to relax. So it turned out that I spent my time watching TV.  I was not sure this really was a way to relax. Whatever, slowing down my pace is good for me.

Nine-set village and Ten-complete village

Todya was the first day we left Taipei! So excited!! It even seems like I am going abraod! The first place we visited was the gold waterfall! It's not big, but the color is unique. The rocks washed by the waterfall are in color of gold. And as turned my head to another direction, I found out the even more beautiful sene! Endless sky and ocena go well with mountains! That's another different of Taiwan, which I never notice before.

Then, we went to Nine-set Village. We had some delicious taro balls!!We also tried fish balls, and traditional cake! I really like local snacks in Taiwan. After we finished the lunch, we started to exploring the area. Everyone wants to find some gifts for their family and friends. We were some what like hunting for something. But actually the beauty of Nine-set Village doesn't only lay in those stories. Once you turn in a narrow alley, you will find more surprises! I wish we have more time!

The next station was Ten-complete Village. It's also where we were going to spent our night here. The most excited moment was when we started to make our own lanterns. Alicia and I made one! On the lantern we wrote two wishes. One was that our friendship would last forever. The other was may blessing and joy be with us. When the lantern was lunched, it gave me a sense of hope. May all the dream come true!

July 2

There can have a resonable answer of how these rocks formed, but I prefer to just look at them first. That's what I thought when we visited Yeliu today. There are different shaped of rocks. Some look like mushrooms, and some  look like fairy shoes. Of course the famous one looks like Queen's head. As we looked careflly, we found that on the rocks there are many small holes. These holes look like honeycomb.

We also saw many fossils. They are beautiful, just like flowers printed on the ground. Also, I watched the mountains around us. We were at the northeast coast, so we can saw Da Tuni and Seven stars Mountain on the west side; Ki Long and Snow Mountain on the east side. I was so amazed by the different layers of Mountains. Because they have different colors, from dark to light as we saw from near to far). Right aside from the mountains are ocean. Blure and green always go well together in nature. With the white fogs and clouds on the top of mountain, I felt so relax and tranquility even though it was so hot.

That's the way I love to learn. I want to see them and find out the beauty of them, then start to figure out what cause them and so on. If teachers ask me to learn the textbook first, I won't be that interested in it. I hope someday our education can help us learn in a free way.

After that, we went to Fisheries Research Institue. There are many fish spacimen, and a lot of see shells, too. It's hard to name them all, but it's easy to appreciate the elegance of them. Actually, I don't like any fish been kept in a tank. They can only circle around the side of the tank. How sad it's for a bird to lose its sapphire sky. The same is true for fish.

At night, we made dumplings togther. Actually, everyone's family has its own way of wrapping up the dough. But it didn't matter at all. It's esperiences that count.

I also visited my aunt today. It's nice to have family around.

Sunday, July 1, 2012

This was a free day today! We went to the "Dragon Mountain Temple". It was also my first time to go there. At first, I thought it would take  one hour for us to visit, but it turned out that we done it in twenty mintues. The temple is not as big as I imagined. Becaause we still had time, we took a look at the traditional market. At there, we saw many Chineses pastry. They made me recall my grandma. She is good at makeing them. I think it's a sense of home.

We then headed to Din Tai Fung, the best reataurant in Taipei. It was so nice!! I had tow bowls of fried rice with shrimp balls and many yammy dumplings!! The service there was even better comparing to the time I go with my family. I think that's because Din Tai Fun wants to promote themselves to foreigners. They really did a good job.

After a satisfing meal, we walked to Taipe 101. We also met Ivy there. I shifted to another places for helping the kid to do homework.

We met again, and took the MRT to Danshuei to watch the sunset! It's a pity that we didn't have enough time. But I am still so happy to be able to go out with them! I hope everyone enjoyed it and will have more fun for the coming days!
